The Barona Casino & Resort in Lakeside, California, recently expanded its casino floor by 30,000 square feet and added a digital dome experience to the casino entrance lobby. Located about 30 miles outside of San Diego, the resort features a 400-room hotel, a luxury spa, restaurants, a golf course, and of course, a gaming casino.
San Diego-based Fluid Sound was brought in as the audio-visual company to design and install the AV system for the expansion, and to provide a foundation for the eventual overhaul of the legacy casino systems.
As a special welcoming feature for casino guests, the client requested an immersive digital dome display that mimicked a skylight looking into the outside world, spanning a section of ceiling near to the entrance of the casino.
Situated above an artificial tree, a 40-ft dome was filled with two stacked NEC digital laser projectors with Navitar custom 180-degree fisheye lenses powered by a 7thSense Delta Media Server and auto-alignment software from Scalable Display Technologies.
The solution features a time-of-day scheduler to simulate sunrise and sunset on the display while an external controller can activate a secondary media layer to depict outside conditions such as rainy days and sunsets.
